Zombie Magazine Cover

In a Design Thinking and Methodologies course, I was assigned a project to create a cover for a fictional Zombie magazine, using a photo of myself that I had edited into a zombie. The objective was to combine imagery and text while maintaining readability. I’m an illustrator at heart so I’m always looking for a way to add hand-drawn elements to my work. to do this I drew a brain and mushroom pattern to put in the background.

Revisiting the cover

After completing the initial design for the course, I revisited it to refine it for my portfolio. There were many aspects I liked about the original cover, but I needed to tackle the readability and composition issues the original had.

Excited by the redesign process, I expanded my project by crafting an interior page for the magazine, envisioning exclusive interviews with deceased celebrities. For this concept, I spotlighted Marilyn Monroe with the title “Diamonds are a Dead Girl’s Best Friend,” alongside cooking tips for brain-themed dishes. To maintain visual consistency, I utilized the brain and mushroom pattern from the cover in a different color for the background of the interior page.
